It is that time of year again... When Spring begins, our LIP program comes to an end, and we joyously prepare to send off yet another class of college freshman to conquer the world!

On Saturday, March 24th we will be hosting one of our most beloved events of the year- the LIP Mother-Daughter Scholarship Banquet!  This is a lovely morning where we celebrate our students accomplishments.  At the last LIP session their class chose Domestic Violence Awareness as the cause we will promote at this year's banquet so our color theme is Purple!  We are so incredibly proud of our students and look forward to sharing this special moment with them.  LIP Class of 2012, Congratulations on behalf of The Fabulous Fort Worth Chapter of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas...

This learning session will explain how being assertive is useful in order to develop positive relationships with others and excel academically, socially, professionally and personally.  The session will be held at the Mary Wright Admission Center (MWAC) at Texas Christian University on Saturday, January 21st at 8:30am.

It was a great pleasure to celebrate the 2011 holidays with our LIP students!

HWNT's ArtSi helped raise scholarship funds for Latinas in Progress Students!

Picture
On Saturday, September 24th 2011 DFW citizens, neighbors, and community leaders gathered to meet and inspire the girls who are competing for these precious college funds.  Thank you for celebrating with us as we honored various community leaders who have paved the way over the last 25 years for the Fort Worth Chapter of HWNT.  Aurora Bleu entertained us with their smooth jazzy sounds as one of our artists paints on live models. A large portion of the proceeds from your generous purchases will benefit the 2011-2012 HWNT Scholarship Fund.  Visit the ArtSi Website for more details!

What is Latinas in Progress (LIP)?

LIP© strives to familiarize senior high school Latinas with college life and the tools to succeed in their personal and professional life. Our education and leadership series consists of five learning sessions, volunteer opportunities, and a Hermanitas® mentorship program. Our series enables the students to participate in five modules where they will (1) learn more about applying to college and college life; (2) improve their writing skills; (3) learn to be more assertive; (4) learn about the importance of civic participation; and (5) learn about health and wellness tips and other important life skills. The sessions are taught at local partner colleges and universities during one Saturday a month during the school year from September 2011 to February 2012. LIP also exposes the participants to mentors/Madrinas®: women who share their stories of overcoming adversity, achieving higher education, and professional success. The sessions provide enriching learning experiences and encouragement by providing access to opportunities, information, financial resources, and exposure to universities.
